Pueblo City Schools busing information

The school district determines which students are eligible for bus transportation based on the student’s grade level and the distance their home is from their school.

Bus routes are tiered so that each bus can pick up students for two to three schools each morning and afternoon. Generally high school students are picked up earliest, elementary school students later with middle school students being picked up last. About 2,500 Pueblo students ride regular bus routes to school each day

Parents, guardians and anyone else who will be dropping off or picking up students at schools are reminded to use the approved designated drop-off spots. For the interest of safety, only buses will be allowed in busing pick-up/drop-off lanes.

Watch for children around school buses

As school buses take to the roads again this school year, please watch for children and obey
the traffic laws.  Colorado state law requires drivers who are approaching a school bus    from either direction, to stop when approaching a school bus with red flashing lights. Drivers
should not proceed until the lights are turned off, indicating it is clear to pass.

There are penalties for motorists who pass a stopped school bus while its lights are flashing. Bus drivers who observe violators will notify the school district’s transportation department dispatcher and provide the color, description and license plate number of the vehicle, any information available on the violator, and the time and approximate location the violation occurred. The dispatcher then provides this information to the appropriate law enforcement agency, which may issue a citation to the violator on the basis of the information provided by the bus driver.

Passing a school bus while its lights are flashing is a misdemeanor traffic offense. Penalties may include a minimum of 10 days in jail and/or a $100 fine. The maximum penalty is one year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine. This misdemeanor carries a six-point penalty on the violator’s driving license. Twelve points in one year may result in suspension of a driver’s license. Also keep in mind that traffic citations for exceeding the 20 mile-per-hour limit in school zones are the most common school-related driver violation this time of year.
