Principal's Message

Dear Central High School Students and Families:

Principle Mehess

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Mrs. Destin Mehess, as the new Principal at Central High School.  Though I attended another local high school, my connection into the Central community runs deep within my family. I spent many days at my grandparents’ home on Cedar Street, right in the heart of beautiful Bessemer, and my mother and her youngest brother are proud graduates of this school.  My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has been shaped over the past 18 years as a Science teacher at Corwin Middle and IB School for 11 years and Assistant Principal at Central for the past 8 years.  In each of my roles, I have sought to ensure the success of each student and the school, by providing the best instructional and extracurricular opportunities and supports possible. I am the product of an excellent education in Pueblo’s public schools system and I want your child to leave this building with that same claim.  Similarly, it is my number one priority at Central High School to ensure that every student receives the most well-rounded education possible.

A well-rounded education, to me and my staff, means outstanding instruction from top-notch teachers, as well as extracurricular opportunities and supports that enable students to develop character, cultivate passions and explore the world outside of the classroom.  When considering the opportunities available to our students, I often look at my own experiences and involvement in high school and college courses, athletics and clubs, and volunteer efforts that helped to shape who I am today.  As the Principal of Central High School, I am committed to ensuring that student needs and interests help shape instruction and extracurricular opportunities.  Through this shared commitment to learning, I am excited to see students engaged in debate in the classroom, scoring the winning point on the field, performing in the musical, or any areathat peaks student interest and passion.

Most importantly, an excellent education is not possible without the great collaboration of students, parents, and staff.  Over the past eight years at Central High School, I have gotten to know amazing students, parents and staff, while also learning about the rich school history and traditions. It is through that same enthusiasm that I will continue to be an integral part of the community and work with all to continue the great successes at Central High School.

I look forward to a great year ahead of us! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas that you would like to discuss.

 Mrs. Destin Mehess
